UN World Water Day - 22 March SDGs/Global Goals 6, 11, 12, 13 & 14

March 22 is World Water Day

It is a UN observance day that celebrates water and raises awareness of the two billion people currently living without access to safe water. A core focus of World Water Day is to inspire action toward Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030. There is amazing work being done by individuals and organizations in this field that gets lost in the media chatter.

Mina Guli is one such individual who is working to raise awareness about the water crisis. She went extreme to rise above this chatter and run 100 marathons in 100 days, to bring the water issue to media attention. You MUST watch the video with this post. It talks about Mina’s story of course but also brings to light the scale of the water crisis. I first watched the video last year when I got to know about Mina's work, and it has haunted me since.

To the young people: If you still trying to find the answer to what is a satisfying career - find one where you can make a difference but on your terms. Something that is bigger than you. It could be water but it could also be something else.

Explore careers in water to gauge if they attract you. Identify ways you can engage with the industry through your interest and skills. The water industry is estimated to be $500 billion worldwide. At my last login, LinkedIn showed 170,000 water jobs worldwide and 1000 in Singapore. Idealism pays too!
