UN International Day of Women and Girls in Science - 11 February SDGs/Global Goals 4 & 5

Celebrating The 7th International Day of Women and Girls in Science!

February 11, 2022

“Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion: Water Unites Us.”

Today marks the 7th year of the UN’s “International Day of Women and Girls in Science,” with a special theme focusing on the importance of gender equity in the science, while addressing the environmental crisis around clean drinking water across the globe.

This year, the 7th assembly will bring together international leaders in government, as well as public and private sector organizations to address the growing concern for access of many to clean drinking water, with specific focus on economic prosperity, social justice, and environmental integrity. Recognizing the contributions of women in science is paramount to equity and access to opportunities that engage and empower the next generation of female scientist and researchers.

As we celebrate this historic day, we share the sentiments of António Guterres, Secretary-General, UN Women Executive Director, “We need more women developing artificial intelligence that serves everyone and works for gender equality. We also need to reverse trends that keep young women scientists from pursuing careers that help us address the climate and environmental crises."

This movement not only brings an expanse of opportunities for women and girls in science, but all those who benefit from their accomplishments through the processes that support connecting people with essential, life-giving resources like clean water.
